This course on #HealthAndClimateChange offers participants updated knowledge on the topic of climate change and human health. Weather phenomena, climate variability and climate change directly affect health. This course explains how mitigation and adaptation policies and measures for health and related sectors benefit human health. In addition, it presents the necessary means to evaluate and integrate health into climate change policies and strategies and vice versa. Several examples are presented explaining how countries respond to the health challenges posed by climate change, including taking advantage of opportunities.

Learning objectives


At the end of this specialized module, participants will be able to:

• Explain how weather phenomena, climate variability and climate change affect human health.

• Describe the health benefits of mitigation and adaptation measures and policies in the health sector and other related sectors.

• Identify a range of means to assess and integrate health into climate change policies and strategies and integrate climate change into health policies and strategies.

• Provide examples that explain how countries respond to the health challenges posed by climate change, including taking advantage of opportunities.


Course and certificate approval criteria:

This course can be self-paced and is not moderated. Includes an interactive lesson and a quiz. To receive the certificate of completion, the respective quiz must be passed successfully. The interactive lesson features case studies, videos, external links and exercises. The lesson takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. The module is also available to download as a PowerPoint presentation that can be used for study without using an internet connection or for training purposes. The module also contains a large number of links to other sources on climate change that provide the possibility of consulting more in-depth and specific information. The quiz can be completed at any time. Evaluate the achievement of the module's learning objectives. The quiz can be taken a maximum of 3 times. Once the quiz is passed with at least 70% correct answers, the participant will be able to download a certificate of completion from the home page.



The relationship between health and climate change is complex and multifaceted. Climate change has increasingly more direct and indirect impacts on the health of people and communities globally, so it is necessary for us to be more prepared to take mitigation and adaptation measures.
